Joe Biden has been a tireless public servant almost his entire life. He has accomplished a lot, and I generally agree with many of his political positions. If he was still capable of being president, I would vote for him again in a heartbeat.
But there is the rub. Biden has shown that his age (81) has caught up with him. He is slow, forgetful, and tires easily. This started well before the recent debate with Trump. The debate simply amplified the evidence. Also, Biden himself ran in 2020 as a "transitional" candidate.
Also, the excuses after the debate made things worse, not better. Biden claimed he was tired from a lot of foreign travel, despite having been back from the latest trip 11 days before the debate. The White House's excuse was that Biden had a cold. But do we want a president who is knocked out of commission by a cold? No. Biden says he will start ending his day at 8pm to get more rest. [ https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/04/politics/biden-governors-sleep/index.html ] I would like to know if the rest of the world is willing to adjust to Biden's new schedule... or should we instead have a president with enough stamina to handle the job?
In his interview after the debate, which was supposed to show that he was actually intellectually sharp, it turned out that the White House had fed the questions to the reporter! This indicates a concern within Biden's own cadre that there is something wrong.
And if Biden is showing these signs now, how will he be four years from now if he is re-elected? Much worse. And not capable of running the strongest nation in the world. Woodrow Wilson suffered a stroke during his presidency, and his wife essentially took over the nation's reigns. Is this what we want again?
Biden is behind Trump now in recent polls, even before any more potential signs of mental digression. What happens when he has more missteps on the campaign trail?
Biden himself CHOSE Kamala Harris to become president should something happen to him. Well, something has happened to him. He has declined mentally and physically. It is time for Joe Biden to stand aside and let Kamala Harris, his hand-chosen vice president, run for the presidency.
